PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
University of North Carolina
at Chapel Hill, Chapel Hill, NC-27510 (Jan 2007-till date)
Montana State University, Bozeman, MT, Post Doctoral Fellow (September, 2004-Dec 2006). Working on identification of the determinants for arsenite [As (III)] oxidation in Agrobacterium tumefaciens
soil isolate using transposon mutagenesis technique. We have been able to identify Tn5-B22 insertions in three unique mutants.
Transposon insertions are located in modB, encodingthe permease component of a high affinity molybdate transport
operon, and the mnhB gene which is part of a seven gene operon coding for Na+:H+ antiporter in
Staphylococcus aureus. In a third mutant, the transposon inactivates an ntr homologue that is immediately
upstream of the AsIII oxidaes structural gene, AroAB. We are also interested in demonstrating the chemoautotrophic
growth by the wild type strain using AsIII as a primary source of energy.
Panjab University,
Chandigarh, India, Senior Research Associate Worked on anaerobic digestion of solid waste at psychrophilic temperature. This job
included isolation of bacterial strains growing at psychrophilic temperature and evaluation of there potential to produce
methane at this temperature. Kinetic studies of the single stage and two stage anaerobic digestion processes. Based on the
kinetic studies, fabrication of pilot scale digester for the process.
